What is Fried rice

Fried rice is a dish made with cooked rice that has been fried together with additional components, most frequently eggs, veggies, meat, or seafood. It is also known as “Chaofan” and is One of the best Asian foods.

Li Hongzhang, a notable ambassador in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), is said to have given his chef instructions to create a dish that would be enjoyed by both Chinese and foreign customers. Both the officials and the international visitors ate the fried rice that the chef had prepared. Because Chinese cuisine is a little different from that of other nations, they often combine veggies like carrots and mixed vegetables with items that are high in protein, such as chicken, shrimp, or pork. There is no such guideline, regarding what you may and may not add. You are free to include any ingredients you like, including shrimp, sausage, tomatoes, and so on.

Both vegans and non-vegetarians can enjoy Chinese cuisine, therefore when making fried rice, you can decide whether to use meat or vegetables (or maybe both).

Yangzhou fried rice is the most well-known fried rice in China. Shrimp, eggs, and bbq pork are typical ingredients in Yangzhou fried rice. It is made out of fried minced pork, eggs, scallions, garlic, ginger, and other ingredients that are combined with boiled rice to make the whole dish. A common addition used by cooks is soy or oyster sauce, while some occasionally use butter as a secret ingredient.

Fried rice is delicious, filling, and a quick and simple meal to prepare for lunch or dinner. Well-known chefs advise using leftover rice to make fried rice to improve the flavour.

Varieties of Fried Rice

  • Yangzhou (Yeung Chow): Fried RiceThe most common type of fried rice served in Chinese restaurants is typically made with rice, shrimp, ham sausage, scrambled eggs, carrots, and green beans.
  • Cantonese Fried Rice: rice that has been stir-fried with minced garlic, sausage, and preserved meat.
  • Fujian Fried Rice: rice is combined with a sauce consisting of braised shrimp, chicken, scallops, mushroom, carrot, egg, tomato, and potato starch.
  • Pork Fried Rice: While preparing your fried rice, sauté a boneless pork chop in a different sauté pan. Then chop and incorporate into your rice.
  • Beef Fried Rice: While preparing your fried rice, brown ground beef or sauté steak in a separate sauté pan. After that, chop or crumble and add to your rice.
  • Shrimp Fried Rice: While preparing your fried rice, sauté half a pound of raw, peeled shrimp in a separate sauté pan. The shrimp is then added to the rice.
  • Vegetable Fried Rice: Any vegetables that work well in a stir-fry would be delicious in fried rice! While the carrots, peas, onions, and garlic are cooking, just sauté. After that, toss it into the fried rice.
  • Pineapple Fried Rice: Thai or Chinese fried rice frequently includes fresh pineapple. Simply slice it and blend by stirring.

Tricks for perfect fried rice

  • Rice that has been refrigerated! Cold leftover rice never tastes as delicious the next day if you eat it directly since the refrigerator’s dry air helps to dry the rice a little, but it’s excellent for frying.
  • Use a lot of heat. You merely need the patience to wait for your pan to get heated—not a scorching hot restaurant stove. Everything will cook more quickly and prevent sticking with a hot pan.
  • Cook ingredients one at a time. Cooking the ingredients separately in the same pan will prevent the flavours from blending.
  • The protein should be prepared first, cooked until almost done, removed from the pan, and the remaining ingredients—eggs, rice, and so forth—begun to cook.
  • Don’t stir too much. Stirring will prevent browning. Just spread out the rice in the pan and let it do its thing.

Recipe

Vegetable Fried Rice

Ingredients: Long-grained rice, water, salt, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, star anise, onions, carrot, french beans, cabbage, mushrooms, bell pepper, rice wine, and soy sauce.

Cook the rice

Step 1: Rinse rice thoroughly until all starch is removed from the water. 30 minutes of water-soaked rice. Drain then set aside.

Step 2: Bring water, salt, and two to three drops of toasted sesame oil to a slow boil in a pot.

Step 3: To the boiling water, add the drained and soaked rice. Rice is simmered without a lid on low, medium, or medium-high heat.

Step 4: Take the saucepan off the heat when the rice is almost done, or al dente. Use a colander or sieve to strain the rice.

Step 5: Additionally, you can gently rinse cooked rice in water to stop the cooking process and prevent sticking.

Step 6: Cooked rice should be covered and left out to thoroughly cool. You can also refrigerate the rice.

Cut the veggies

Step 1: Cut the vegetables into small pieces and set them aside while the cooked rice cools.

Step 2: Don’t forget to very finely cut the french beans. They require longer cooking times than other vegetables.

Step 3: They can also be cooked after being blanched. Alternatively, you might add the other vegetables after the beans.

Cook vegetable fried rice

Step 1: In a pan or wok, heat the oil. The star anise should be added first and fried for a few seconds, or until the oil starts to smell good.

Step 2: Ginger and garlic should be added and sautéed briefly. Garlic doesn’t need to be browned.

Step 3: Spring onion whites are added, and they are sautéed for about 2 minutes. French beans, cut coarsely, are then added.

Step 4: French beans should be stir-fried for 2 to 3 minutes at medium to medium-high heat.

Step 5: Add the remaining vegetables, such as celery and mushrooms, that have been finely diced. To completely cook all of the vegetables, turn up the heat to high.

Step 6: To ensure that the vegetables cook evenly and without burning, you must constantly toss and turn them while they are in the oil.

Step 7: The vegetables must be stir-fried until they are nearly done but still have a crunch and crispiness to them. Vegetables stir-fry for 4 to 6 minutes at high heat.

Step 8: Salt, pepper, and soy sauce can be added. Add the cooked and cooled rice after a brief stir.
